Class three

Structure and Layout

This week there was a lot of focus on understanding the different elements and how we use these to create the appropriate structure when building our webpage. After the lesson I read more about HTML here. In this I learnt about further ways to create structure in HTML by labelling content with <header> <nav> <section> <article> <footer> and added these additional elements to my HTML on my website.

Final Year Presentations

There were some small things I have made a note of that I would like to remember when it comes the time for me to make my final project. I have made a record of these in a spreadsheet called “lessons learned log”.

One thing that stood out for me was wanting to be able to navigate the page, I always looked for a hamburger menu, and also wanted this menu to follow me as I navigated the page. I found I like this when using this site (which I found on the codrops website of the week)

The navigation bar following you  might not always be appropriate, but if you have a long webpage this will mean that if you want to navigate somewhere else in the site then you can do so really quickly. In these final projects I noticed that a lot of the websites had an arrow follow you as you scrolled down the page. This would be a similar concept, and would be the same amount of user clicks, however I like the idea of being immediately given options, so this is something I will consider if it is appropriate for my website.

Starting to Use Wireframes

Following this week’s lectures and presentations I started to think about how I could improve a website that I recently started building in wordpress. At the end of class I quickly drew a wireframe of how I think it could look;
